KGHM Cuprum undertook the planning and implementation of the Lubin-Głogow Copper Region development, our specialists designing this integrated industrial district with its own technical infrastructure, including four copper mines - Lubin, Polkowice, Rudna and Sieroszowice - along with accompanying facilities, such as machine production and repair workshops, tailings ponds and road and rail transport bases.

Non-ferrous metal mining:

Hard coal mining:

  • design of a model mining panel for the Czeczot coal mine

  • development of a new-generation tyre for self-propelled vehicles for the Staszic coal mine

  • a plan for the reconstruction of Jerzy shaft and the sinking of Kopernik shaft at the Victoria mine.

 

Underground constructions:

  • design of tunnels in Iran and Algeria

  • tests of tubing lining and the physical and mechanical parameters of soil in tunnel B-16 of the Metro in Warsaw.

 

Geology

Geological analysis and resource assessment for:

  • the San Shi Tang copper ore deposit in Xinghai province, China

  • the Cupey project (Cuba), relating to a laterite Ni-Co deposit in Moa district

  • the Kolwezi copper deposit in the Democratic Republic of Congo

  • the Mufulira copper deposit in Zambia

  • the Issougrid copper deposit in Antyatlas, Morocco

  • the Chapada project in Brazil, relating to a Cu-Au deposit in Goias province

  • the Moldova Nova copper ore deposit and Certej Mo-Au deposit in Romania

  • the Re-Mo Playter deposit in Canada

  • the Michiqiullay i Torromocho copper basins in Peru

  • an evaluation of the options for exploration in the Torrecillas and Salavery-Copara area, Peru (Cu-Au mineralisation).

Environmental protection

  • a plan for the construction and operation of Zelazny Most tailings management facility, at which 375,000,000 m3 of waste have been located to date

  • methods and plans for the improvement of protective zones around mines and smelters

  • an environmental monitoring system for landfills

  • a life cycle assessment for waste management in the copper industry

  • assessments of the environmental impact of mines and smelters

  • remediation programmes for post-industrial areas, such as land destroyed by mining activity in the Mirsk community, including creation of the tourist footpath 'The Old Precious Metal Mining Trail'

  • an analysis of the potential for cultivation of energy crops on land adjacent to facilities of KGHM Polska Miedz S.A., along with selection of species aimed at producing bio-mass for renewable energy production and bioremediation of heavy metals
