Adjustment and implementation of Lean methodology in Polish copper mines

The main objective of the Project is adjustment of lean production methodology to the conditions characteristic for mining industry. Analysis and revision of lean methods and tools considering their usefulness for that industry will be carried out in KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. which is among the world leaders of copper and silver producers. As a result of the project modified lean mining methodology is to be developed which could be implemented in other mining companies of extractive industry.

Within sub-activity 1.4.5 of Sector Operational Program - Increase of Companies Competitiveness.

Period - July 2006 - June 2008

Tasks:

  1. analyze of copper and accompanying minerals resource balance;

  2. review of currently used and new technologies in copper and accompanying minerals mining industry;

  3. analyze of foresight projects for non-ferrous metals mining industry all over the world;

  4. evaluation of innovativeness of technology in copper mining industry;

  5. readiness of copper mining industry for implementing new technologies;

  6. alternative scenarios for technological development of copper and accompanying metals mining industry;

  7. verification of scenarios;

  8. development of data base about technologies and experts in predicting the technical development of the branch;

  9. development of principles for monitoring and cyclic update of branch foresight.

The project was managed by Steering Committee headed by Jan Butra and Project Manager Andrzej Kosior. Works were carried out in 12 task groups. Leaders of four groups came from our partners while in the rest of them leaders were from CUPRUM. In order to verify the hypothesis concerning the branch development the Delphian method was used.
